Missions of DMA
The Department of Mathematics and Applications (DMA) at Ecole Normale Supérieure (ENS) aims at
providing top-level education in mathematics,
carrying mathematical research, which it does both at a national and an international level.
This is why DMA
gives priority to teaching: every researcher or professor must be involved in the education program through lectures, tutorials, but also organization of seminars and workshops;
has a national mission by providing each year young teachers and doctors to the French academic system;
encourages mobility — as a rule, no one can be part of the faculty for more than 10 years;
develops collaborations with many universities and research centers, all over the country but also abroad;
creates an interdisciplinary environmement by increasing its relationships with other departments of ENS: computer science, physics, biology.
At last, the DMA hosts the editorial office of the Annales scientifiques de l’ENS, as well as the famous Nicolas Bourbaki group.
